Swimming Report
Swimming and water safety
All schools must provide swimming instruction either in key stage 1 or key stage 2.
In particular, pupils should be taught to:
- swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
- use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]
- perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
(As taken from the Department for Education statutory guidance)
Swimming at St. Stephen's takes place at Daisyfield swimming centre with children in year 3 receiving swimming lessons on a Thursday afternoon in the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms. All children receive an hour swimming lesson each week.
Where required, we provide swimming booster sessions for the year 6 children to ensure that the expected level of proficiency is achieved.
