Gardening
Why Gardening is an important part of our curriculum at St Stephen's...
'Plant gardens and eat what they produce.' Jeremiah 29:5
🌱 1. We Learn About Nature
When we garden, we see how plants grow from seeds into flowers or vegetables. We learn about soil, water, sunlight, insects, and seasons. It helps us understand the natural world in a real way.
🥕 2. We Learn Where Food Comes From
Instead of just seeing food in a shop, we grow it ourselves. This teaches us that fruits and vegetables don’t come from supermarkets — they come from the earth! We pass our vegetables along to the school kitchen so they can use them in our delicious lunches.
🧠 3. It Helps Our Learning
Gardening helps with:
Science (plant life cycles, weather, insects)
Maths (measuring plants, counting seeds)
Art (drawing plants and flowers)
💪 4. It Keeps Us Healthy
Gardening is exercise. Digging, planting, and watering keep our bodies moving. Eating what we grow also helps us make healthy food choices.
🤝 5. We Learn to Work Together
We share tools, take turns, and help each other. Gardening teaches teamwork and responsibility.
😊 6. It Makes Us Feel Happy
Being outside in nature can make us feel calm and proud of what we grow. Watching something grow because of our care feels special.
Gardening at school helps us grow plants — and it helps us grow too! 🌻
