Dear Parents and Carers,
As part of our curriculum focus on British history, we are delighted to let you know that on Thursday 8th May, we will be celebrating the 80th anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe Day). To mark this important occasion, we are inviting all children to come to school dressed in red, white, and blue, the colours of the Union Jack.
VE Day commemorates the end of World War II in Europe, a day when communities across the UK came together in celebration and remembrance. It is a moment to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of those who lived through the war, and to help children understand the importance of peace and unity.
Throughout the day, the children will be taking part in a variety of activities linked to VE Day, including themed lessons, arts and crafts, music, and storytelling. These activities have been designed to be age-appropriate and engaging, helping the children to explore this key historical event in a meaningful way.
We are also very pleased to announce that we will be welcoming a special visitor to our school on the day—the Town Mayor—who will be joining us to celebrate this important anniversary and to meet with the children during their activities.
Children can wear anything in red, white, and blue—this could be as simple as a t-shirt or accessories in those colours. However, we ask that clothing is appropriate for school and please note that this is not a fancy dress day. There is no expectation to buy anything new.
As part of the celebration, we will also be offering a special celebratory lunch in school. Children who usually have a packed lunch are very welcome to join in; if they would like to do so there is a £2.00 charge which should be brought to school by Friday 2nd May
To end our day of remembrance and celebration, we would be delighted to welcome parents and carers to the school running track at 1:15pm for a special VE Day parade. Each class will have the opportunity to take part, and we look forward to sharing some of the children’s learning and creativity with you. Parents are warmly welcome to come and watch.
Thank you, as always, for your support. We are looking forward to what promises to be a meaningful and memorable day at St Stephen’s.
Warm regards,
Mr Brennan
